Chichester District Council's Cabinet agreed to the investment at its meeting on 2 October. The money will be spent on resurfacing and relining the car park.

The 177-space car park serves a large majority of the town's visitors on a daily basis and is often the first area that visitors to the town see.

A desire to improve the car park has been identified by the parking services team and members of the Midhurst Vision Group.

The work will be carried out in phases to minimise disruption and ensure that the car park can still be partly used. Alternative parking will also be available for season ticket holders and daily users in Grange Road and the Post Office car park.

"The North Street car park is in need of improvement to ensure that it continues to look attractive and the council is maintaining it as an asset, whilst meeting health and safety requirements," says Councillor Tony Dignum, Leader of Chichester District Council.

"Our parking services team have been patching and filling areas of the car park for some time now, however resurfacing and relining the car park now is essential to ensure it remains usable for residents and visitors in the future."
