Chichester District first Farmers' Market was held in 1998. They have been held regularly every month since then, growing in size and frequency over time.

Why shop at a Farmers' market?

We believe our markets are one of the best in the region all our stallholders have to comply with the following conditions to attend:

All of our stallholders are required to grow, rear, bake, and/or preserve all their produce and are based within 50 miles of Chichester.
The majority of our stallholders are primary producers offering a wide variety of meat, fruit, vegetables and eggs.
Other types of produce include fish, cheeses, honey, cakes, chutneys and plants.
In addition to this, you will find a number of guest producers and artisans who provide local specialities across the year.

All produce must be grown, reared, caught, brewed, pickled, baked, smoked or processed by the stallholder.

The stallholder must be from the local area.

All processed food must contain a minimum of 30% local ingredients where possible.

Fresh food

Local food has less far to travel so can be delivered and sold soon after it is picked. All the traders at Chichester Farmers Market are from a 50 mile radius of the City. The food should be fresh, seasonal and ready for your plate. You can meet the people behind the product, ask how to cook it and maybe what to serve it with.

Reduces your impact on the environment

Seasonal food is usually abundant and delivers maximum eating pleasure for the best price. Fruit and veg in season will usually be field grown, which minimises their energy demand and carbon footprint. Local fruit and veg will usually be what is seasonally available in your area and it's much easier to buy locally to buy seasonal.

Supports your local economy

Research shows local food can support hundreds of jobs at outlets, even in small towns, and this in turn supports producers in your area (we define local as within 50 miles of where you shop). This means the money you spend automatically circulates again locally and at least 2 to 3 times, boosting prosperity. This can really count in areas where there are no major industries or large employers. Now more than ever we need to support our local High Street and producers.

Become a stall holder

Our Farmers' Markets aim to support farmers and producers who are local to Chichester District Council. We aim to offer a diverse range of produce for the customers of the market. We were winners of the Sussex Farmers Market of the year 2018.
