District Dispatch column

This column is written every month to help give you an insight into the council and the work that we are doing on your behalf. It also appears in the Chichester Observer and the Midhurst and Petworth Observer.

As a district council we cover an area of 303 square miles, including the City, Petworth, Midhurst and Selsey. We serve 115,000 people. You may not realise it, but you come into contact with our work every day. We provide more than 80 services over every 24 hour period. We empty your bins, check food hygiene standards, license taxis, clean your streets, look after the coastline, care for our parks and open spaces, and provide support and reassurance to the vulnerable. We handle your planning applications and run the off-street car parks.

To find out more about our work, we have a few videos on our Chichester District Council YouTube (opens new window) channel.

We use resources wisely and make sure that we spend money on services that matter to you. We also work closely with our partners to ensure that you are receiving quality services that give value for money. We are doing this in a number of ways, from buying together to sharing services. We are always looking for new ways to deliver those services.

As a council we always welcome your views. You can do this in a number of ways, including communicating with us on our social sites, sending us a message on our website, or emailing publicrelations@chichester.gov.uk

District Dispatch - 2 April 2024

If you have a garden then this time of year is always brimming with excitement, especially when you see the first daffodil blooms in all their glory. With spring fast approaching we'll hopefully be able to get outside a bit more and start preparing for warmer weather.

District Dispatch - 26 March 2024

None of us like littering, fly tipping and dog fouling, and this is why we have been working hard with your help to make sure that our area continues to be one of the most beautiful places to live and work in the country.

District Dispatch - 19 March 2024

Recently, I've been finding out about some of the amazing projects across the district that we have helped fund, using money that we have secured from the Government's Levelling Up Fund.

District Dispatch - 12 March 2024

At the end of February, councillors set the budget for the year ahead and agreed to increase our portion of council tax by £5.41 a year for the average taxpayer.

District Dispatch - 5 March 2024

This week is National Empty Homes Week, which looks to put the spotlight on the important work that is being done to reduce the number of homes that have been left empty for six months or longer.

District Dispatch - 27 February 2024

National No Smoking Day will take place on 13 March and so this is always a good time to remind people about the range of support that is available.

I recently had the pleasure of spending the morning with our Rough Sleeper team and Everyone Active to find out more about a unique initiative, which has been helping rough sleepers, and those who are at risk of homelessness, access support.
