Equality strategy

The council's Equality Strategy includes some broad statements for dealing with equalities issues in providing services to the public and how we are run internally as an employer. It also includes the equality objectives that we reasonably think we should achieve to meet one or more aims of the general equality duty, as well as details of engagement that we have undertaken in developing these objectives.

These objectives are broad and strategic and will influence how the whole council's services are designed and delivered.

Each year we will report on how we are progressing against these objectives in the annual equality report.

Annual Report

The council produces an annual report every year to demonstrate compliance with the Equality Act 2010. This must include information on the effect that our policies and practices have had on people who have protected characteristics and to demonstrate the extent to which the aims of the general equality duty have been furthered for the council's employees and for others with an interest in the way it performs its functions. This includes:

  • Evidence of any analysis that we have undertaken to establish whether our policies and practices have (or would) further the aims of the general equality duty.
  • Details of the information that we have considered in carrying out this analysis.
  • Details of engagement we have undertaken with people that we consider to have an interest in furthering the aims of the general equality duty.

The council is required by law to publish this information by 31 January each year.
